Best Moen Garbage Disposals

Best Moen Garbage Disposal Systems

Moen Garbage Disposals are one of the best garbage disposals across the globe. The following is our review of the Top 6 Moen Garbage Disposals.

Moen is an American brand started in 1937 by Al Moen when he lived in Seattle. Washing up after work, he turned a faucet on and got scolded with a burst of hot water. That was his inspiration to make innovative products that not only functioned better, but also looked great.

Time spent to make the exterior look good, should also carry over to the internal detail.

All of the Moen Garbage Disposal units use high-speed permanent magnet motors that deliver fast grinding action. Be it potato peels, fruit pips, chicken bones, apple cores or other leftovers, the Moen Garbage Disposals grind all types of food mess in a matter of seconds.

Their disposal systems also feature a universal mount system which fits most three-bolt mounting assemblies (in other words, for example, you can swap out an InSinkErator product with a Moen, and vice versa) with a simple twist-and-turn lock installation. This is great if you ever have to replace your unit or upgrade.

Best Moen Garbage Disposals Systems

At the current moment, there are many Moen Garbage Disposal systems available on the market. So, how do you choose the best unit for you? We’ve been through what we consider to be the best six units, and outline each below with a Takeaway summary at the beginning to try and make life easier for you.

1). Moen 1/2 Horsepower Garbage Disposal GX Series (GX50C)

The Takeaway – ‘Great looking unit for smaller households, unlikely to jam, plus 4 yr warranty and built-in power cord with plug’

The Moen GX50C comes with a 1/2 Horsepower and 2600 RPM vortex permanent magnet motor that can turn to dust even the toughest food particles without jamming.

It also features Universal Xpress Mount for easy twist-and-lock installation. Having a pre-installed power cord (with a plug, so you’ll need a socket under the sink), the Moen GX50C Garbage Disposal has the specially developed SoundShield Technology that minimizes the sound levels of the powerful grinding motor at work.

Being equipped with Stainless Steel components, the product weighs 10 pounds, measures 7.5 x 7.5 x 13.5 inches, and comes with a 4-year Limited Warranty.

It’s also a great looking unit – the whole Moen range, to our eyes, looks better aesthetically than both the InSinkErator range and the WasteKing range.

2). Moen GXS75C GX Series 3/4 hp Garbage Disposal

The Takeaway – ‘Similar to the GX50C, but more power, faster RPM, longer warranty, for $30 more’

Almost identical to the GX50 above, but with a 3/4 Horsepower high-speed motor, the Moen GXS75C can grind tough kitchen scraps without a hitch.

A nice touch on the Moen units is the polymer grinding chamber, which should mean that there is almost no chance of a leak occurring over time due to rust corrosion, unlike with the InSinkErater products.

With speeds up to 2700 RPM, the heavy-duty permanent magnet motor is designed to help reduce jamming and delays.

Like other GX series, the Moen GXS75C also comes with the Universal Xpress Mount and Soundshield technology to help deaden unwanted roaring grinding noises.

Galvanized steel grind components and a 5-Year Limited Warranty make the S75C a good option for a growing household.

The product weighs 10.25 pounds and measures 7.5 x 7.5 x 13.4 inches.

3). Moen GXP50C GX PRO Series 1/2 hp Garbage Disposal

The Takeaway – ‘Slim for compact under-sink spaces such as kitchen islands, but not many 5 star user reviews, so go for the GX50C or GXS75C if possible’

The Moen GXP50C GX PRO is one of the slimmest units you can buy. Plenty of reviewers like it if you only have minimal under sink space.

Perfect for tiny apartments or if you don’t have any kids, due to the small size.

It comes equipped with a good 1/2 Horsepower vortex motor that performs disposals at 2600 RPM to reduce jamming and ensure smooth grinding of the food waste.

The unit, as with other Moen devices, comes with a pre-installed power cord and plug, lighter in weight, and utilizes SoundSheild technology for an ultra-quiet grinding process.

The Moen GXP50C PRO has a lower 3-year limited warranty with in-home service, and the complete unit weighs 7.75 pounds with dimensions that are 5.4 x 5.4 x 13.4 inches.

The main selling point is the supermodel skinny profile. But, if you have the space, go for the heftier models with longer warranties.

4). Moen GXP33C GX PRO Series 1/3 hp Garbage Disposal

The Takeaway – ‘Identical to the GXP50C above, but less power and $10 cheaper – go for more power if you can’

Read the review above, and substitute 0.5 horsepower for 0.33 horsepower here, and 2600 RPM grinding speed with 1900 RPM speed here. Plus, it’s $10 cheaper.

What concerns me though are the relative lack of 5 star review. Plenty of 4 star reviews, indicating that these slim units are not terrible. Again, though, these slim units are cheaper and this one in particular is less powerful. But, power and therefore speed are important to prevent jamming with any garbage disposer.

The Moen GXP33C  is designed with the Universal Xpress mount to simplify its installation process. The power cord and integrated plug is again pre-installed to save you some additional bucks.

The product has continuous feed technology and has Galvanized steel grind component materials.

The Moen GXP33C GX PRO Series comes with a relatively low 2-Year Limited Warranty, while the product weighs and measures, 7.75 pounds and 5.4 x 5.4 x 13.4 inches, respectively.

5). Moen GX75C GX Series 3/4 hp Garbage Disposal

The Takeaway – ‘Identical to the GXS75C above, but for the extra cost you get stainless grinding gear. Limited number of user reviews, mainly positive, but some queries about peel grinding. ‘

The Moen GX75C is pretty similar to the GXS75C model, but the feature which gives an edge to this model is it’s Stainless Steel grinding components when compared to the galvanized steel of the GXS75C.

With the more powerful motor, you get higher speed grinding at 2700 RPM, which should deal more easily with tough waste. Having said that, at least one user review has commented that this unit seems to struggle with melon rind, so bear that in mind.

The housing is a little longer to house the motor, so just be aware that you will loose another inch or two of space underneath the unit once installed.

SoundShield is standard across the range to reduce loud grinding noises.

Dimensions (14-3/8” height, 7-1/2” width and weighing in at 12.00 lbs) are close to those of the GXS75C model. But, the unit clearly improves on the Limited Warranty, going from 5 years with the GXS75C model to 6 years for this model.

The reviews are mainly positive, but with some queries about it not grinding melon peel well, then I would be inclined to chose one of the models above instead.

6). Moen GX100C GX Series 1 hp Garbage Disposal

The Takeaway – ‘Power. Much more power! You pay for it, and some additional noise. But this bad boy should not clog.’

The Moen GX100C is a beast. Both in power and size.

At one horsepower, it is double some of the smaller units reviewed on our site. But, with more power comes higher speeds (2800 RPM) and higher torque, and therefore less likelihood of clogging.

Unlike the InSinkErator products, it does not have a wrench to access an external bolt to manually turn the grinding gear if there is a clog, so just be aware of that. But, with 1 HP, you would hope it would be difficult to stop this thing!

As with all the other Moen units, it comes with the Universal Xpress mount, and will cross-mount with units from other companies. Just be aware that the plumbing outlets for your pipes, etc may be in slightly different positions if transferring from another brand.

A pre-installed power cord with plug, and the SoundShield technology come as standard across the Moen range. There have been comments about the louder grinding noise, but perhaps with this power that is to be expected.

Be aware of the longer body (16″ x 7.5″) – make sure it will fit under your sink …

Moen GXL1000C GX Series 1 hp Garbage Disposal in use
Make sure it fits!

And, be aware of the heavier weight (13 lbs) – if you have a flimsy sink unit, look for a lighter weight model.

A 7-year limited warranty with in-home service backs the unit, and the components are made of Stainless Steel, which should ensure a long-life and protection from rust.

What’s Common Across The Moen GX Series (All Models)?

All the models in the Moen GX Series are amazing when it comes to the main job of grinding food waste. From finishes that are guaranteed to last a lifetime, to motors that perfectly smash food scrap without a hitch, the Moen GX Series sets the standard for outstanding performance.

All models the Moen GX Series models have some things in common listed below:

  • Pre-installed Power Cord with plug
  • Grinding gear immediately up to speed (no slow start), which avoids jamming
  • SoundSheild Technology
  • Continuous Feed
  • Universal Xpress Mount
  • Vortex Motor

Which Moen Garbage Disposer Should I Buy?

If finances are not an issue, I would pick the Moen GX100C for the 1 hp motor and 7 year warranty (for even more, there is the GXL1000C with a 10 year warranty). It should be pretty much ‘fit and forget’ which, with a busy life, is exactly what I want. All the Moen units look aesthetically nice, and I would hope that the attention to the exterior detail carries across to the internal engineering.

Runner up? If I was on a budget, I would try and stretch to the GX75C. Why? A 3/4 hp motor (power), stainless grinding gear (no corrosion), and 6 year warranty (less likely to break anytime soon). Again, I’m aiming for ‘fit and forget’ – pay a little more if you can, and get better quality that should last longer and give less hassle.

We hope this article has fully-explained all the top Moen GX Garbage Disposal systems and has made it easy for you to choose the right product according to your wallet and family needs.
